Since the founding of the company in 1922 by Rudolf Schäfer in Munich, the Rudolf Schäfer KG is family-owned. It is now managed by Martin Schäfer as general partner in the third generation. MUNICH MILESTONES
THE COMPANY HISTORY
The success story of Rudolf Schäfer KG is closely linked to the events in Munich and the Schäfer family. Since 1922 the company has grown steadily, both with regard to the number of employees and customers. It has been an exciting journey, leading up to today – with the management of the Rudolf Schäfer KG in the third generation and our own company building. We enjoy looking back at our milestones and are already looking forward to the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Schäfer KG.
1922 – FOUNDATION OF THE COMPANY BY RUDOLF SCHÄFER
On May 15, 1922, during a time of deepest economic depression, Rudolf Schäfer, a young man of 21 years, founded his real estate company. The company, named after him, was then based in Nordendstraße in Schwabing and did not have any permanent employees other than the founder.
1930 – FIRST MOVE OF THE RUDOLF SCHÄFER COMPANY
Eight years after the foundation, the company’s headquarters are moved to today’s pedestrian zone, Neuhauser Straße 9.
1943 – ANOTHER MOVE – CAUSED BY THE WAR
Due to the destruction of the company building at Neuhauser Straße 9 during the Second World War, the company has to move again. This time to Bogenhausen, Pienzenauerstr. 2.
1951 – MOVEMENT BACK TO THE CITY CENTER
Eight years later, Rudolf Schäfer KG moved back to the inner city, to Sendlinger Straße 23. The first planning stages for the future company’s own building are initiated.
1955 – START OF CONSTRUCTION AT THE CURRENT COMPANY HEADQUARTER
Meanwhile the company has grown considerably and has been operating in the Munich real estate market very successfully. 54-year-old Rudolf Schäfer acquires a property in Max-Joseph-Straße 8. The building is so war-torn that it cannot be preserved. The construction of the company’s own headquarters start.
1957 – BUILDING COMPLETION AND MOVE TOMAX-JOSEPH-STR. 8
After a construction period of approximately two years, the employees and Rudolf Schäfer, who still personally manages the company, are able to move to the new permanent headquarters right next to Karolinenplatz.
1963 – ERICH SCHÄFER JOINS THE COMPANY
41 years after the foundation of the company, Rudolf Schäfer’s son Erich joins the family business at the age of 24. Rudolf Schäfer now has about 10 employees and manages a large number of residential and commercial units in Munich and the surrounding area.
1972 – 50-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF RUDOLF SCHÄFER KG
Rudolf and Erich Schäfer together with their employees can be very proud of the first 50 years of the family company. For the celebration of the day, rooms are rented in the Hotel Continental located opposite the company headquarters. Employees, partners and clients of the company Rudolf Schäfer KG as well as Munich’s local notables enjoy a splendid celebration. Local newspapers as well as special interest media report on the success story of the company.
1983 – ERICH SCHÄFER BECOMES GENERAL PARTNER
With Erich Schäfer being appointed as general partner a new era for the company begins. The Rudolf Schäfer KG, which is managed as a limited partnership, is now led by the 44-year-old son of the company’s founder.
2000 – MARTIN SCHÄFER JOINS THE COMPANY
At the age of 24, Martin Schäfer, the son of Erich Schäfer and grandson of the company founder, joins the company. The trained merchant of the real estate and housing industry supports his father as a junior partner in the management of the company.
2006 – MARTIN SCHÄFER BECOMES GENERAL PARTNER
Twenty years after the death of Rudolf Schäfer, the company management is again passed on from one generation to the next. At the age of 30, Martin Schäfer, who has since become a real estate specialist (DIA), is appointed general partner at Rudolf Schäfer KG.
2016 – SUCCESS STORY CONTINUED
Ten years into the leadership of Martin Schäfer, the company has grown steadily and has further consolidated its leading position in the Munich real estate market. Rudolf Schäfer KG now employs around 20 people and manages several thousand residential and commercial units in Munich and the surrounding area. Erich Schäfer has received several awards for his voluntary commitments for the Bavarian economy. He received the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande, the Honorary Medal of the IHK München und Oberbayern as well as the Golden Badge of Honour by the IVD Bundesverband. Martin Schäfer is an active member of the General Assembly of the IHK München und Oberbayern and a member of the board of the IVD Süd.
2019 – Martin Schäfer becomes chairman of IVD Süd
The board members of IVD Süd e.V. unanimously appoint Martin Schäfer as their chairman. He hereby follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who held this position in the precursor association Ring Deutscher Makler (RDM).
2022 – 100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF RUDOLF SCHÄFER KG
To celebrate the 100-year anniversary and mark this important milestone, Erich and Martin Schäfer invited the entire team to lake Tegernsee. During a joint hike and dinner, many an anecdote was exchanged and lots of laughter shared. Due to the unforeseeable pandemic situation, large celebrations with long-standing customers and colleagues were renounced. Local media reported on the successful history of the family business and the two owners’ vast experience, as well as their influence on the Munich real estate market.
